And it was SO MUCH FUN!
My 2 fairy godmothers threw me the most 'whimsical' and 'enchanted' afternoon bridal shower a girl could ever imagine. The decor was superb, the food delightful and the friends, truly magical.
okay, enough with all the fairy talk. But seriously, this shower was beyond anything I could ever have expected. It was so girly and fun and the best part was just seeing all the people that mean so much to me, especially my girls who had never all met before.
Truth be told, T's a pretty easy guy to please. He wanted something simple and I suggested we go to Brilliant Earth because the diamonds are ethically derived and the metal is all recycled Platinum and Gold. He chose a brushed White Gold band with shiny edging, it's really cool. I'm still debating on whether to have something engraved on the inside as a surprise.
While traveling this last month we agreed that if we have some additional money (haha! that's HILARIOUS!) then it would be good if I got a plain band as well (in white gold) for when I travel. Carrying around this beautiful ring just isn't the best, I'm super hands on when working and a diamond could so easily slip and I would never notice as well as lugging my equipment day in and out while traveling, the ring does catch on things and I would just hate to damage it. So if we can, we will get a matching band for when I need to stay "incognito" with the bling.
I'm just so excited to have gotten so much done. Tomorrow I go try on my dress which just came in and will probably feel miserable as I still haven't lost the weight to get into the dress..... but we shall see!
I have to say, shopping for men's suits might have been the most frustrating part of the wedding experience so far. Men's dress options just plain suck. The colors and cuts are so limited and THE SIZES! Even if you find a suit you like, the chance of them having it in your size (in any store) is slim to none. Trying on suits he either looked:
A) Like he borrowed dad's sportcoat.
B) Generic.
The limited color, fabric and style options for men is appalling. And it doesn't help that i have quite specific tastes. Since the colors of the wedding are earthy tones with lavender, apricots and greens I thought it probably best for Mr. T to wear a brown suit, not a tux. Tuxedo's are for City Hall and Ballrooms, not the forest. But I really wanted him in a Mocha colored suit... not Dark Brown (because it will photograph black) and not light Tan (because then he wouldn't stand out enough)..... a creamy mocha or cocoa, with just a hint of milk to get that nice velvety brown.
So off we went. And it was a disaster. The suit we found that looked great on T wasn't 'the vision' it was a weird wheat brown with purple pinstripe. A beautiful italian suit no doubt, at a steal of a price...... but just not what we were really looking for. You can see it here:
Suit #1
From there it was all downhill....
Suit #2
This is a great Hugo Boss Sportcoat. It has a beautiful purple tint to it actually that isn't visible in the photos or the terrible Nordstroms light. I don't understand though why Hugo Boss insists on just having great sportcoats and no pants. FRUSTRATING!!!!
#3 Al's Attire
Sunday we went to North Beach (the cool Italian section of SF) And it was here that we found the solution. We picked the Fabric, the thread, the buttons, every detail. Al was incredible and super attentive.
And the shop, well, you can see for yourself how cool and "old world" it is right down to the Victorian boots that THEY MAKE. Notice the bolts of fabric along the tops of the walls..... love it.
So this is the fabric! On the left is a lightweight brown wool gaberdine. The right is a reversible satin that we are using as the lining of the jacket. The other side (which doesn't photograph well is reverse color of fleshy mauve and steel) The Mauve color will be the back of the Vest. As I said in the beginning of this post, Todd's having a 3 piece suit so that during the reception, he can take his jacket off and still look super stylin in his vest and tie. So excited!
It's been quite a long time since I've posted. Mr. T and I have been crazy hectic the past 2 months with finals, work and travel (for work) which has put much of the 'wedding planning' on hold. In May I traveled to Guatemala, then to NY and then to Zihuatenejo Mexico with T in tow to Mexico and we had a great time..... a little mini-moon if you will except for the fact that he had to schlep my bags in 100 degree weather.
This past weekend was our first weekend home and boy, what a weekend of getting stuff done it was! I should say that right before we left for Mexico, we realized that we had to go do the registry PRONTO. Those registries are tricky beasts, but Todd enjoyed the scanner and searching for the perfect kitchen appliances. He made sure to be armed with either a Pete's Coffee or Jamba Juice at all times and thinks Macy's has 'lame' scanners compared to Crate and Barrel's.
In addition to the 2 chain stores, most of our *goods* we registered for at a lovely boutique here in San Francisco called Sue Fisher King. It is here that I found our everyday dishes www.Juliska.com which will also double as our china because it's just so damn adorable. Who needs fine china when you've got these lovelies right? Because I'm never one for matching, I chose 3 different color for place settings ---- 4 White, 4 Green and 4 Cappuchino. This allows the mix/match look for entertaining, but also for us to alternate if we want to set a table in all one color. The accessories (platters, cream and sugar, pitchers, etc) for this line are TO DIE FOR. So much fun. Even if all I get is one plate, it will be enough to start me in my quest for collecting the whole line.
